Fabio Montomoli is recognized by critics as one of the best interpreters of the international scene who praise his beautiful sound, power, penetration and wide variety of timbres.
He graduated with honors from the Santa Cecilia Academy of Music in Rome, where he studied with the Carlo Carfagna. He attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg where he studied classical guitar with Eliot Fisk and Joaquin Clerch-Diaz, and baroque interpretation with Nicolaus Harnoncourt. He studied counterpoint and composition with Francesco Iannitti Piromallo.
Montomoli was the first prize winner in seven of the most prestigious national Italian competitions and was the winner of the International “Mauro Giuliani” Guitar Competition in 1992. This was the start of an international concert career which took him to perform amongst the most important concert seasons all over Italy and abroad, as well as tours in Japan (Tokyo, Hiroshima, Hayama, Kamakura), USA (Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York), Mexico (Morelia, Paztquaro, Zitaquaro, Ixtlauacha, Zamora, la Piedad, Aguascalientes, Messico City, Queretaro, Pachuca), Finland (Tampere, Helsinki, Turku), Greece (Atene,Volos), Germany (Berlin, Munich, Heidelberg, Wolfsburg), Spain (Granada, Valencia, Linares, Girona), Kazakhstan (Astana, Almaty, Karaganda, Kokshetau), Venezuela (Caracas, San Felipe), Argentina (Buenos Aires, Rosario, Bahia Blanca, Trenquelauque, Gualeguaychù, San Miguel), Cameroon (Douala, Yahoundè), as well as concerts in Belgrade, Beirut, Hong Kong, Malta, Minora, Moscow, Prague, Salzburg, Santiago, Singapore, Warsaw, and Vienna. Fabio Montomoli is frequently invited to some of the most important international guitar festivals “Andrès Segovia Ciudad de Linares” (Spain), Hersbruck Guitar Festival (Germany), Tokyo Guitar Festival (Japan), “Volos” Winter Guitar Festival (Greece), Turku Guitar Festival (Finland), Morelia Guitar Festival (Mexico).
He constantly collaborates with several composers who have dedicated their own work to him: Fabrizio Festa dedicated the suite “Paesaggi” for solo guitar (1997) to him. Francesco Iannitti Piromallo dedicated several works to him: Concerto in A major for Guitar and Orchestra (2002), Sonata in D major for solo guitar (2007) and the suite “la Porta del sole” for clarinet and guitar dedicated to the duet Giovanni Lanzini- Fabio Montomoli.(2009)
He has been featured in many radio broadcasts: Radio Vaticano with a live broadcast on the classical channel, Radio 2, Radio Helsinki “La Rondine” with a live national concert, Radio Rete Toscana Classical.
He records for the label “SAM classic” in Lari (PI) where his various first cd recordings as a soloist performing transcriptions of major instrumental works (Turina: La oraciòn del torero op.34, Cinco danzas gitanas op. 55 ect) stand out. These works have been published in the collection personally directed and edited by “SAM publications.”
Montomoli is very active as a teacher and presents master classes all over the world at the most important guitar festivals.
