Symphony Orchestra

The HARVESTEHUDER SINFONIEORCHESTER HAMBURG was founded in 1966 as a chamber orchestra under the name "Harvestehuder Student Orchestra" by Christoph Prick at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater, which is based in the Harvestehude district of Hamburg. It has developed into an institution in the field of amateur symphonic orchestras in Hamburg. The orchestra is supported by a support association founded in 1993. The orchestra is a member of the Federal Association of German Amateur Orchestras.

The program mainly includes symphonic works from the 19th and 20th centuries, but also Hamburg premieres and world premieres of works by young composers and film music. Concerts take place twice a year in the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. The orchestra also supports performances by choirs and theater ensembles.

The orchestra is a self-governing, non-profit organization and cannot be booked as a dedicated artist; but the agency Massa regularly and successfully acts as a mediator for projects for this outstanding body of music, from concerts at home and abroad to a currently ongoing CD production.
